The building in which we worship originally housed a methodist congregation which was founded in 1836. The building itself was built in 1886 and was the fourth methodist meeting house to be erected in this village. Over the years, members of this congregation have made significant contributions to the life of our community. Woodbridge United Church has been the spiritual home to many saintly people.

Minster: Jon Vickers - Growing up in England, Ontario, Bermuda and Canada gave Jon a deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world and of the people of the world. Travelling with family as a young man to the Holy Land, South America, around Europe and for road trips across Canada deepened that appreciation.

After studying history and philosophy as an undergraduate and working in the summer Jon studied law for a year before deciding to study theology at Bishop's University with Dr. Ronal Reeves, whose faithful approach to scripture remains an inspiration. Bishop's proved a stepping stone for Jon, to his M. Div., and ordination in the United Church of Canada. His first pastoral church was in Northern Ontario before being called to the ever-changing and growing GTA.

Jon applies his different academic studies, as well as his experiences of travelling and the world of classical opera, in his approach to scripture and worship. Are weekly reading from the Bible relevant today? The answer is just "yes".

Jon's life is blessed with his own family. He enjoys the restorative power of nature, reading and good music.

From childhood, his grace had been, "Bless the \lord, oh my soul; and all that is within me, bless God's Holy name."
